Sibusiso Gladwin Sibeko Kandlozi, better known by his stage name Able Gee, is not just a musician — he’s a voice for township youth and a living testimony of resilience, purpose, and divine timing.
Born on 31 January 1990 in Sebokeng, Evaton, Able Gee is a seasoned singer, songwriter, and music producer, whose journey into the arts began in primary school. Even then, his exceptional talent stood out — leading choirs and acting groups — earning him early recognition and a lifelong passion for the creative arts.
Growing up during the final years of apartheid in a community heavily affected by poverty, crime, and gang activity, Able Gee faced difficult odds. “There was always pressure to join the wrong crowd,” he recalls. “But music was my escape — it saved me from a path that many never came back from.”
In his teenage years, he was exposed to street life and even found himself in jail at one point. But instead of giving up, he turned inward and upward. “I believe in prayer. It helped me break away from everything holding me back,” he says. Despite his surroundings and challenges, he stayed focused on his dreams.
Without the financial means to attend college or a formal arts academy, Able Gee and his crew took matters into their own hands. They recorded music independently, sold CDs and merchandise, organized local events, and pushed their content through community radio, TV shows, and grassroots networks.
“We never had big funding or sponsors,” he says. “But we had hustle, heart, and hunger.”
Even with his hectic artistic life, Able Gee never failed a grade in school — a rare achievement for someone juggling education and street-based hustle. Now based in Johannesburg and working in areas like Sandton, Rosebank, and Pretoria — places he once only visited as a young dreamer — Able Gee sees his journey as divine preparation.
“God didn’t rush my dream. He let me go through the fire so I could come out stronger, wiser, and more grounded,” he says.
Today, Able Gee is focused on more than just his own success. He wants to build platforms for other young artists in townships like Sebokeng, where opportunities are scarce, and youth often fall prey to drugs, gangsterism, and hopelessness.
“There’s so much talent back home, but no support. We shouldn’t always have to leave our communities to make it. We should build studios, businesses, and creative hubs right there,” he says.
Through music, mentorship, and community engagement, Able Gee hopes to inspire the next generation — showing them that where you start doesn’t define where you can go.
“I’m not perfect. But I’m proof that with faith, focus, and fire — you can rise.”
