The enraged former DA PR councilor in wards 105 and 116, Shadrack Mkhonto, says his departure from the party, to join ActionSA, was fueled by persistent unhappiness he endured at the DA.

Now, he divorced the DA and pledged to go with the members who joined the DA because of him.

On Friday, March 5, Mkhonto had previously been seen drinking tea with members of ActionSA and things seemed greener.

“I’m not going to leave the DA alone, but I took all the members of my executive branch from ward 105 and 116.

“As we speak, the DA does not have a branch in Ward 105 and 116. The time DA will want to recruit members, I wonder where they will get them from because all the committed members of DA in Alex are gone with me to ActionSA.

“I realized that it was high time I divorced the DA because, even in marriage, there comes a time where there’s no longer a sense of cooperation, and split is imminent.

“So I committed myself and joined ActionSA because I didn’t see a future with the DA” explained the 59-year-old that has been active in politics since 1988.

In his statement he issued on Wednesday (3 March 2021) Mkhonto declared.

“The DA I joined in 2000 has changed, again. It no longer represents an organization that I believe can take our country to new heights; one that can remove the ANC from power and offer our people new direction and opportunity to grow our country.”

Mashaba expressed his excitement at having the ‘hard-working’ Mkhonto at his party.

“We have always called him the mayor of Alexandra. He already has about 1000 people registered with us.

“I feel humbled, and his joining us gives me the inspiration that we have the support of the people on the ground in this fight.”

In 2016, Mkhonto was voted the best councilor of the year within his party’s councilors who worked in the city of Johannesburg.

He received an award at the caucus of the DA for, among other things, hiring plumbers to build resident’s toilets, as well as organizing materials to rebuild burnt shacks, and food parcels and accommodation for the victims of fires.

The mayor without boarders said over the years, things kept on getting worse in the DA.

He lamented that despite his hard work, there was no recognition or promotion.

He said people were being parachuted into higher positions.
