While South Africans, especially the youth, face high unemployment and send their CVs without success, others are doing their best to find a job in what they know!

Alex Reporters now sheds light on young people fighting unemployment through their entrepreneurial spirit.

Sifiso Brian Ndalo (25) was born and brought up in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg.

He opened his shoe washing laundry in November 2021.

As the only man in his family, Ndalo says it has led him to seek ways to create an opportunity for himself and others who are unemployed.

He said that the idea was conceived while he was washing his own shoes and realized that it could be an opportunity for him to dust off unemployment.

“Growing up, I saw a lot of lazy people washing their own shoes. And that’s when I saw an opportunity to find employment.

“That’s when I set up my shoe-washing business,” he says.

Ndalo manufactures his own products out of ordinary detergents.

He says by blending the detergents, he could create special products from scratch.

“I researched and produced my own washing products. Afterwards, I tried my products on shoes and the results were phenomenal.”

Sikhokho Shoe Laundry has grown to two employees. One of them, 34-year-old Klaas Mokoena, stated that the opportunity to work at the laundry changed his life.

“ It was hard for me to feed my family. I will forever be grateful to be part of the laundry. Now I’m able to feed my family with the money I get from the company,” said Mokoena.

Ndalo further stated that he has big dreams for his business.

“My dream is to produce my own sneakers, washing liquid products and ensure that more jobs are created.”
