A man who spent 20 years behind bars for murder is now fighting for his life after angry residents of Alexandra set him alight in a violent act of mob justice.

Nkosana Sibeko was allegedly spotted at 20 Roosevelt Street by community members who accused him of helping trigger man Justice Maponyane murder 17-year-old Sthenjwa Ntombela — a beloved local teen.

Maponyane is in the cells after handing himself over to the police.

What happened next was pure rage.
The community pounced. They beat him. They doused him. They lit him on fire.

But before death could finish the job, Sibeko — engulfed in flames — dove into the filthy, fast-moving Jukskei River.

When Alex Reporter crew arrived, the man was surrounded by cops at the river bank.

Police and emergency services swarmed the scene and pulled him out. “His burns are beyond horrific,” said one officer. “If this man survives, it’ll be a miracle.”

He’s now under heavy medical care.
But the violence didn’t end there.

Sthenjwa’s grieving family is now living in fear. They say two gunmen — believed to be Sibeko’s allies — arrived shortly after the attack, issuing chilling threats.

“This is a war,” the family told Alex Reporter.

Whlile the community members are demanding answers — and justice, police are investigating both the mob assault and the threats. But on the streets of Alex, tension is thick. And the fear? Very real.
